Rotorua

Just over an hour’s drive from Katikati this the world famous city which is rich in Maori history and culture surrounded by geothermal geysers and volcanic activity.

Explore Lake Rotorua, go to a Maori Concert (Kapa Haka) or take a trip in a gondola up Mt. Ngongotaha and slide back down on a luge.

You may even want to spend an hour or two fishing while you are down there and catch a silver rainbow trout (bring it back to Kaimai Country Lodge to eat).

On the way there or back you can stop of at the newly opened all terrain TECT Park on State Highway 36 between Tauranga and Rotorua with its high ropes course, mountain biking tracks and four wheel drive tracks. If you have your own mountain bike or motor bike there are specially constructed tracks with jumps. The Adrenalin Forest is a high ropes course with varying degrees of difficulty and takes about 2 hours to climb around. There are also walking and running paths and tunnels.  Find out more at www.tectallterrainpark.co.nz
